Teeth brushing is fundamental for optimal oral health. However, the flossing is the other fundamental. As the brush takes care of the greater surface area, the flossing will go for the hidden joints in between the teeth. Bacteria don’t like to thrive at the surface of the teeth unless there is a large layer of plaque. They like to go for the joints where the toothbrushes never reach. Well, you have to prove the bacteria wrong by making them totally homeless in your mouth. To do that, you just don’t need flossing, but effective flossing that leaves no room for oral defects. How to Hold the Floss

The floss is a soft threat that is thin and strong enough to pass in between the teeth without breaking. For effectiveness, you need to know how to hold the string appropriately. The length of the floss is long enough to allow for proper holding. You need to wind the floss around the two central fingers tightly and leave more room for flossing in between the teeth. At most two inches needs to be left in between.

Using the Floss

Now you hold the floss as required. Make use of it by getting it in between the teeth and remove the plaque. Moving the floss up and down will be the movements you need to make to eliminate the food particles in between. Make the movements as gentle as you can to make sure that nothing remains in there.

Floss Beneath the Gum

Just as you do with brushing, try to go down to the gum lines. The plaque closest to the gum is the leading cause of gingivitis and later gum disease.  By removing it, you are not only ensuring proper oral health but also preventing the invasion of deadly diseases. The base of every tooth needs to be cleaned up by curving the floss where necessary.


Without proper brushing, you cause gum bleeding. In the same way, it’s the gums to suffer if you make mistakes when flossing. You need to take care of your gums any time you are flossing. Especially the bit where you have to go beneath the gums to clear out any accumulated plaque, ensure that you don’t cut the gum instead.

Keep Moving the Floss

Don’t floss all the teeth with a single section of the floss. Instead, keep on moving the floss so that every gap will be served by a clean and fresh section. That way, you will prevent entry of certain bacteria from one gap to another.
